Review:

I'm reviewing Shadow Hunter by Kait Ballenger, which is part of the After Dark anthology. Unfortunately, I don't have Gena Showalter's portion as well to give this book a more accurate rating.
Shadow Hunter is about a guy named Damon who is a vampire hunter. He ends up hunting vampires in Rochester, which just happens to be the city that Tiffany lives in – a woman from his past that he cares deeply about.

Damon is a tortured guy – he feels responsible for the death of his friend and partner, Mark. Running into Mark's little sister Tiffany makes the situation a little messy. They are both attracted to each other, but he feels guilty taking things to the next level. Damon is keeping so many secrets from her. Despite that, he's a likable character. He's a heroic guy and is out to avenge the death of Mark by killing the powerful vampire that is responsible.

Tiffany is in Rochester for the same reason. She is a brave, sassy character that hunts vampires as well. All she cares about it avenging her brother's death. Damon and Tiffany work well as a team, although Damon doesn't want Tiffany risking her life by hunting vampires. These two have some really steamy moments that adult paranormal romance fans will enjoy.

Shadow Hunter is actually a prequel to the Execution Underground series. In Shadow Hunter, Damon is choosing members to be part of his team in Rochester – which is a good way to set up the series. Sounds like each team member will get a book of their own. I love series that have each book featuring a different character in a group. It sounds like it will be a great series. The one thing that I'm frustrated with in this story is the ending. We don't get a happily ever after ending. What we get is a HUGE cliffhanger. Since the next book doesn't feature Damon and Tiffany as the main characters, I'm not sure how this will play out.
