Review:
Scarlet Woods is the first book in a
new series by Brooke Passmore. It's about a seventeen year old girl
named Morgan who finds a door in the woods behind her house. It's
just a strange, random door that doesn't seem to be attached to
anything. She walks through the door, not knowing that she travels
back through time to the year 1863. She ends up running into a guy
named Danny in the woods. Morgan needs Danny's help so she follows
Danny through the woods and finds that her hometown of Scarlet looks
completely different.
This book has a lot of funny moments.
For a period of time during the book, they don't know that they are
from different time periods. Of course, since the way people act in
present day is so drastically different from the way people acted in
the 1800's – Danny thinks Morgan is weird and vice versa. However,
it doesn't stop them from feeling an attraction for each other.
Unfortunately, Danny is engaged to be married.
The author did a great job of
expressing the character's feelings, but I just felt like the book
jumped around too much from character to character. It got a little
confusing to me. Also, the book just seemed really long. Things were
really drawn out. This really is a great love story, you just have to
be patient with the characters.
With this taking place in the Civil War
era, there is a lot of interesting history involved. The plot was
great, and this is a very unique story. I was kind of sad at how the
story ended. I'm really curious about what will take place in the
next book.
