Review:

Of Blood and Bone is the first book in The Minaldi Legacy series by Courtney Cole. In this book, we get the points of view from both the hero and the heroine. Eva is a woman who travels to Malta to finish up her doctoral dissertation. She meets, and falls for, Luca – the most eligible bachelor on the island. The problem is, Luca has some very dark secrets that keep him from having any sort of relationship with anyone else.

Being that she is studying to become a Psychiatrist, Eva feels that she can find out a lot about a person based on their first encounter. Luca is a complete mystery to her though. He seems like such a kind man, but yet she can sense the darkness that he hides. He is rich, handsome, a gentleman...but she gets a feeling of danger from him that she can't describe. Despite that – she can't stay away from him.

Lucas feels an attraction to Eva as well. Against his better judgment, he tells her that she can stay in his home. This surprises me, because he feels that he is a danger to others. With the murders happening in town though, Eva is scared to stay in her little cottage alone and takes him up on his offer. A very sexy, steamy relationship develops.

I was completely expecting this to be a paranormal book, but it's not. It's more like a romantic thriller. There is a very interesting twist thrown in toward the end that I wasn't expecting at all. This twist definitely changes things... but we are left with a cliffhanger and things seem to be far from over.

I have read one other book by Courtney Cole, but this writing is completely different. It has a dark, spooky vibe throughout. It's a well-written book full of mystery, suspense, and romance. I feel that adult paranormal romance lovers, as well as urban fantasy lovers, would enjoy this one as well – even though it's a different genre.

  1. I love alternating POVs. They are my favorites as I like to see both sides of situations. I like that it sounds to not focus on the paranormal, but more on the mystery and intrigue.
