Synopsis:

Most teens turn sixteen and get the license to drive, but Lil Falcon gets the license to kill demons. Orphaned as a child and raised by an eccentric grandfather, Lil is concerned with surviving high school and is unaware that she's a Guardian-a being with super powers charged with killing demons and protecting humanity. When she meets Bran, a mysterious boy with amazing abilities, his psi energy unlocks her latent powers. But Bran has a secret that can ruin their growing relationship, and the truth she discovers may destroy everything she believes in unless she finds the right balance between love and sacrifice.

Review:

Awakened is the first book in The Guardian Legacy by Ednah Walters. When Lil turns 16, she comes into her powers – powers she had no idea she would ever have. Her whole life has been a lie, but she is strong and resilient. Once she accepts what she is, nothing can stop her from fulfilling her destiny.

She meets Bran – a boy who is very mysterious, but she is very drawn to. Nobody trusts him, but Lil can't help but fall for him. It's a sweet relationship with a lot of sexual tension – nothing out of line though for a teenage book. I think you could feel at ease having your teenage daughter read this book.

I really enjoyed the paranormal aspects of this book. The book has a lot of excitement and moves at a fairly quick pace. There are some “edge-of-your-seat” moments where you cannot put the book down. Honestly, the only thing that bothered me about this book was Bran's name. Every time I read it, I either thought of a girl (short for Brandi) – or I thought about Bran Flakes, lol... I guess something that was a little hard to remember was the introduction to all these characters in a short amount of time. That part was a little overwhelming. As a whole though, this was a great young adult paranormal book and I will be reading the next one very soon!
